Metro - We are bringing the Metro to Dublin North. Stops in Dublin North will also include Nevinstown, Swords, Seatown and Lissenhall. The new line from St Stephen's Green to Swords in North Dublin via Dublin Airport is scheduled for completion in 2012. The metro will: Carry 34 million passengers per year | Take 17 minutes to travel from the city centre to Dublin Airport | Take 26 minutes journey time from St. Stephens Green to Swords | Leave every 4 minutes increasing to every 90 seconds as the demand builds.

DART - We brought the DART to Portmarnock and Malahide.
Last year we invested €175 million in the DART, the largest investment ever | Every station is now upgraded to take eight carriages | We have doubled DART capacity and provided 180 new Suburban Railcars and DART cars.

North Dublin Commuter Line: Pearse-Dundalk/Drogheda
This route serves North Dublin commuters in Malahide, Donabate, Skerries, Lusk and Balbriggan. The route serves one of the fastest growing population corridors in the country. | Since December 2003, peak capacity on the Northern Commuter route has increased by over 50%, as well as enhancing off-peak and Sunday services. We are now going to resignal the Connolly to Pearse area in the City centre. This will allow for greater frequency of services from the Northern commuter line and will be complete by 2009

Buses - Since 2000 we have provided over 130 new buses for Dublin. | We will deliver 200 extra buses over the next two years. We have provided €30m immediately to enable Dublin Bus to buy 100 additional buses for delivery over the period 2006/07. | We have authorised the Dublin Transport Authority to provide 100 buses from the private sector on new routes.

Transport 21-Connecting Dublin - The Metro will run from the City centre to Swords in the heart of Dublin North. This will link up all of the existing rail corridors in Dublin. By interchanging with the DART, the northern, north-western and south-eastern suburban rail lines will be connected to the Luas and bus services along the route. | Metro North will link up with Metro West at Ballymun. This means that those living in North Dublin will be able to travel on the metro to Clondalkin, Liffey Valley and Tallaght. While also being connected to the Mainline Rail Network as it links with both the Kildare and Maynooth lines. | The Red Line Luas to Tallaght will be extended to City West and the Luas Green Line will be extended to from Sandyford to Cherrywood by 2010. | We will also join up the existing Tallaght (Red) and Sandyford (Green) Lines in the heart of the city. | By 2009 the project extending the Luas Red Line from Connolly Station, through the Docklands to the Point will also be complete.

Upgrading the M50 - Work has begun on upgrading the M50. This involves the widening of the motorway from 2 to 3 lanes in each direction (with a 4th auxiliary lane in places), from the M50/M1 interchange near Dublin Airport through to the Sandyford Interchange and the upgrade of the interchanges along this length. The upgrade work will take place in three phases. This scheme will provide a motorway standard road linking all of the major interurban routes serving Dublin and the Regions as well as removing through traffic from Dublin City centre and suburbs. It is expected to be complete by 2010.

M1 Dublin-Border - This road will provide a high quality link from Dublin to the Border with Northern Ireland. The M1 also forms part of the Belfast-Dublin-Cork route element of the TENT (Trans-European Transport Network). This is crucial to providing fast reliable links between Belfast, Dundalk, Drogheda, Dublin Port and Dublin City. It also links in with the M50. The only remaining element of the motorway yet to be completed is the section from just North of Dundalk to the Border. It is due for completion before the end of next year.

The Port Tunnel - The Port Tunnel opened on December 20th last year. The new underground dual carriageway links the M1 Dublin-Belfast motorway and the M50 to Dublin Port. When the tunnel opens it will take many of the current 9000 heavy goods vehicle (HGV) journeys per day off the streets of Dublin. This will ease congestion in the city and improve the quality of life.

North Dublin Fingal Rural Transport Initiative - This popular community based transport service provides flexible, pre-booked door-to-door transport to meet needs of people who do not have access to public or private transport in North Fingal. | Over 270 passengers use North Fingal Rural Transport Co. Ltd, (NIFTI) every week. | It operates 2 wheelchair accessible buses five days a week providing ten services a day with its commuter service and school transport service providing a link to Swords. NIFTI also runs other services for shopping, community activities, active retirement groups, and facilitates local sports clubs focusing particularly on the marginalized sections of the community.
The towns served are Ballyboughal, Old Town, Naul and Garristown.
